Great tyro 2018-09-17 6:27

Hello Will,

I do like this one. And I do like photographs of musicians though I have never had the courage to take a DSLR with its noisy shutter to any sort of formal concert - perhaps these new "silent" mirrorless cameras might make photography less intrusive.

This violinist's posture is perfect as he studies his score whilst holding instrument and bow up in his left hand and the details and sharpness are superb considering that this was taken in pretty poor light on a long lens and slow shutter speed.

I agree with Gert that it does look a tad dark and I have also done a quick workshop for you, this time using Levels and increasing brightness but also reducing (rather than increasing) contrast.

Kind Regards,

Hello John

I generally prefer under-exposure in b/w images, but I agree with both you and Gert that this is a tad too dim. But when I was working on it in P'shop, it looked fine, and still does when I look at it on my Photo Viewer, so what's happened while it was uploading to TE? This version certainly looks darker than the one I thought I was posting! For instance, there is no detail in the man's clothing, but there is in the "original". Some other bug/gremlin in the TE system??

Nice to hear from Viviane, and glad that you are keen on a visit to Oxford. Look forward to seeing you there!

Kind regards
