Photographer's Note

Every year the Chinese celebrate Chinese New Year. At temples and parks across the country they have fairs with rides, shows, and food. Lots of food. Each part of China features different foods as the local tastes dictate. Here is Beijing they are pounding rice making it very sticky - once in sheets they can roll it and stuff it with many different foods (meats or vegetables). The stickier the rice the better it holds together. Many watch as they pound heavy, here taking turns, to make the rice just right. This is one of many booths. There are lots of foods on a stick, kebab style, boiled eggs, soups, noodles, corn, and squid - (not on the same stick) – but a variety of meets, sausage, and “who knows” on a stick. People carry dozens of sticks and just munch away as they walk on throughout the parks, shops, and shows.

Happy Chinese New Year – Year of the Tiger!
