Photographer's Note

The Yi ethnic minority is one of the 55 ethnic groups in Yunnan who are mostly farmers, speak their own dialect which is closely linked to a Tibeto-Burman language and most are animist. They are easily recognised by their distinctive traditional colourful costumes and large kite-shape headdresses. Camera shy and frankly I had difficult times getting decent shots of them, because they often do not like being stared at by cameras thus long lens and peekaboo are the only options.

This portrait is not the best that I hope for, just a simple shot taken in a tiny remote mountain village near the town of Qiaotou about 100 km north west of Lijiang.
