Photographer's Note

"Man! that bath was exhilarating but exhausting. Let me rest for a while" - "Padmanabhan", the main bull elephant of the famous Guruvayoor Temple in Kerala, resting after a bath in the bath (tub!!) pond prior to being prepared for the evening temple ceremonies.

The Guruvayoor Temple is one of the most famous South Indian temples for the Hindu faith. The temple gets a number of elephants, mostly little ones, donated by devotees. These elephants are kept and cared for in an elephant farm, the Punnathur Kota Elephant Farm. The elephants are well cared for with lot of food to eat and mahouts (elephant-keepers) attending to them. There were about 65 elephants of various ages at the time when I visited.
