Photographer's Note

In the morning of August 6, 1945 the city of Hiroshima, completely oblivious of what was in store for it, had just started to get busy preparing for a long summer day. At 8:15 am, the fate of the city changed for ever. The American Bomber B-29 Enola Gay dropped the first ever atomic bomb in history on this ill-fated city.

The atomic bomb code named Little Boy exploded about 600 meters above the Hiroshima City. The hypo center was only few hundreds meters away from the A-dome. The red ball in this picture represents the explosion point, and below it lies the flattened city.
