Photographer's Note

Ryozen Kannon Temple, Kyoto, Japan...

This temple has an 80 foot (24m) high white statue dedicated to unknown soldiers who died in World War II... notice the person walking out of the left door from the temple... I thought if I could capture someone walking in or out that they would play an important role in portraying the size and height of the statue... so I patiently waited until that moment happened...

Memorial services are conducted four times daily at a shrine nearby that contains memorial tablets of the two million Japanese who perished during the war...

There's also a Memorial Hall commemorating the more than 48,000 foreign soldiers who died on Japanese territory...

I remember as I approached into the area that the statue was in, you were able to see her head poking thru the large trees... I was very impressed and moved to see this massive white beauty basking in the sun...

Shot was taken with a film camera... converted to a digital image...
