Photographer's Note

This is the second picture in my series on a Pilgramage to Kapalvastu, the home town of the Lord Buddha. However, I haven't been able to create a travelogue yet. On the site of the ruins of the ancient city of Kapalvist, all is silence, except for the bird song. The only signs of movement are around a small Hindu shrine and a statue of an elephant god, which seemed to me to be a delightful example of Nepalese folk art. This is not, I think, the Hindu god Ganesh, but is probable a companion to one of the great gods: just as Shiva is always accompanied by a bull. However, even Wiki couldn't help me in finding out which god is accompanied by the elephant.
Middle class pilgrims from Kathmandu, explore the ruins, while a local Hindu woman sits tranquilly at the feet of the elephant god. She was not begging, and seemed to be just enjoying the peace and the closeness of her divinity.
