Photographer's Note

The Island of Sri Lanka is one of the world's largest exporters of tea with its famous Ceylon tea.

Driving through this area (Nuwara Eliya) is a guarantee for superb landscapes and interesting scenery of ladies harvesting tea leaves on the lush plantations that are scattered all around the hills.

The women work very hard on the tea plantations picking tea leaves from morning till evening. They pick leaf per leaf and then drop them in the baskets or bags that they carry on their back (and that they attach to the head to keep their arms free). Once they have a full basket, they walk to the small truck in front of the plantation to empty it; to start all over again of course afterwards.

This is the last photo of the tea plantation series, perhaps not the best one, but I really love the concentration of this woman working in this green sea of tea.
