Photographer's Note

Thailand has a new project for the people of the countryside. It is called "One Tambon, One Product". The government grant 1 million baht to each village to finance one project (handicrafts, food item, any product) that the village is distinctly known for. The best ones will receive a prize and will be marketted abroad. It is a huge success.

In this village in Ayutthaya, people make a hanging fish decor that is made of fiber/hemp. When we went there, we had the opportunity to take pictures of subjects using these as backdrops. This old woman was watching on the sides.( I had posted two of her pictures in the past but none with this background). We requested her to pose for us. She said in Thai that she thought nobody would notice her. Well, we did. She had that look of wisdom: "been-there, done-that".

I was debating whether I should turn it into a BW. However, I would like to also highlight the colorful world that this old woman had and will continue to have. So, I went for a compromise: I adjusted down the saturation of yellow and red.
