Photographer's Note

The southern Albanian hilltown of Gjirokastër is known for its Ottoman architecture, and old houses with slate roofs. Taken near the castle looking out over the Drina Valley near sunset. Tip. The black shale is more supportive of your weight when walking down the paved streets. The white limestone tends to be very slippery. The road up to the castle is paved with alternating shale and limestone. There is an old Greek Temple ruin on the sunlit plateau area at right in the distance.
