Photographer's Note

This bridge was, at the time of its build in the early 60's, the highest bridge in Europe. It was superceded by the Millau Viaduct in 2004.
Europa is 777m long, and at its highest the deck is 198metres above ground. Its longest span is 190 metres. Because of its construction, ie no towers, it features badly on the tallest bridge in the world stakes, a record also held by the Millau Viaduct in Southern France, who took the title upon completion in 2004.
Having no towers above the roadway, and being a six lane highway, you can drive across it without any sensation of being 200 metres in the air. But get off at the viewing point and walk back over, you begin to realise how massive it is. The vehicle on the RH centre support is a full sized 44tonne articulated lorry !
Two WS phots may help here!
Built as part of the Trans-Alp route between West Austria and Italy it carries the E45 over the Sill River in the Wipp valley, just south of Innsbruck
