Photographer’s Note

During the summer as here in Austria on the shores of the Lünersee the alpine grounds are covered by a rich variety of flowers. These flower carpets are a prime hunting ground for bees that collect nectar and pollen from them and play a major role in this ecosystem.

The honey resulting from this alpine flower nectar collection is very rich in flavor and is best bought directly from the producers in the numerous markets to be found in the alpine villages, usually once a week.

Similar remark applies to cheese, the summer cheese made from milk produced by the cows on the alp is must tastier than the one produced indoors during the winter.
