Photographers Note
This is a typical Maisäss in an altitude of about 1500 metres high above the village Gaschurn in the Austrian Montafon valley (Vorarlberg). "Maisäss" encloses the words "May" and "to sit" - the place where one sits in May before cattle can be driven up to the mountain pasture, the Alm. This depends from snow conditions up there but usually at the end of May or the beginning of June cattle is driven up there.
My photo shows the Maisäss "Lifinar" with Garnera valley - with Garneraspitze (2883 m) at its end. The Alm is situated up there at the end of the valley.
This is a wonderful region for lonesome hikes - for hours and hours (please see map view right hand).

Hallo Frank,
ein wunderbares Almbild. Diese ruhigen Wanderungen sind uns auch am allerliebsten. Nur Sonne, Weiden und Kühe.
Schön die zwei gegenläufigen Diagonalen. Bildaufbau 1A
Viele Grüße

Hi Frank. You must be an avid hiker and why not if the topography is so inspiring as in this scene. Lucky folk to live in such a place where the air is clean and one can hear the skylark sing. Am I imagining things or are the woods moving towards the houses, like in Macbeth?Lovely light. greetings from a cold, wet and windy Melb. where the blossoms are out but winter is not going to leave them in peace.Klaudio.

Hi Frank,
Indeed a very beautiful valley here and a very fine picture. I like these three parts here, the Alm in the sunshine, then the shadowed steep slope behind and finally the snow covered mountains, also in sunshine. Looks like a very deep valley down to the left here!
Kind regards
Gunnar

Bonjour Frank ,
ces mayens de sont pas sans rappeler ceux du Valais . MAis il est vrai que certaines vallées du Voralberg ont été colonisées par les Walsers . MAgnifique paysage montagneux et composition excellente .
