Photographer's Note

Under one of the arches in Telč square stands this peculiar scale - the inscription in Czech reads: PRECISE AUTOMATIC PERSONAL SCALE. For a mere one crown (about 5 euro cents), it provides anyone who is interested two services - tells him his precise weight and shows him his image in the mirror. Acually, you don't have to pay to look in the miror, that is a free bonus:-) The coin is inserted into the slot on the right, and once you step off the scale, the dial where the weight is shown is covered by a panel that shows the price of the "service". You can see the full "scale" of the scale in a WS.

I have not managed to find out anywhere who put the scale there, why, and when; it has "always been there".

I liked how from a certain angle, the opposite side of the square is reflected in the mirror. To take the photo, I set my camera on a timer, inserted a coin and knelt on the scale, to the great amusement of some French tourists passing by.

To Diane: Diane, so I did finally go back to take the "mirror" photo which failed a few weeks ago because of the two men on their way from a pub. This time, only a cute black and white cat kept me company, so I was actually able to focus on focusing the camera. Hope things at school get easier (in Czech, we would say "lighter") for you soon!
