Photographer's Note

This is Qaqortoq a town in the Kujalleq municipality in southern Greenland, located near Cape Thorvaldsen. This small town has a population of about 3,100 and is the fourth-largest town on the island. People here must lead interesting and hardy lives. Walking about here on this warm day seems easy yet I am sure as the seasons quickly change it will become challenging.

There is a nice church, a local trading store, along with the seaport and fish and shrimp processing industry. They also do tanning, fur production, and ship maintenance and repair. It is also a main center for education (primary school, secondary school and high school plus vocational school) and government administration. Tourism is a new addition to the local economy.

Like the rest of Greenland, Qaqortoq is critically dependent upon investment from Denmark and relies heavily on Danish funding. Of all exports produced in Qaqortoq, most are headed for the Danish market. Energy comes from a dam about 40 miles away.

Hope you all have a great week head. Thanks for looking, drt100 David
