Photographer's Note

In the days before piped water supplies people in towns had to rely on wells to draw their water from.
Here in the corner of a Lyon courtyard is a surviving piece of history. Right in the corner is an elaborate well still with water visible. Next to it is a basin for people to wash in. The wall on the right is suffering badly from mould.

Best in the large view.
