La Cambe Military German Cemetery.
The German war dead from the Normandy campaign were scattered over a wide area, many of them buried in isolated or field graves, or small battlefield cemeteries. In the years following World War 2, the German War Graves Commission, "Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge", decided to establish at La Cambe this area of over 5 acres.In total there are 21222 German soldiers commemorated here.In the centre, as you can see in the photo, there is an impressive tumulus, surmounted by a large cross flanked by statues, that marks the place where the remains of 296 unidentified soldiers were interred.They never returned
