Photographer's Note

I drove through a mixture of thick fog with hoar frost and brilliant sunlight, changing every few kilometres, until I reached Mayen, Eifel's biggest city.
Genoveva Castle started in 1291 and remained intact until 1689 when the French burnt it down, a fate shared by many castles in Rhineland-Palatinate. Since then, the castle was destroyed several times, the last time by a big fire in 1902.
The castle houses the German Slate Museum and serves as a good location for a summer theater festival. iPhone 8.
