Photographer's Note
The Monemvasia rock on which the upper town is built rises to 300 m and the inhabitants could get to their houses only by climbing such steep stairs (today's tourists also have to climb).
The biggest problem was the food and water supplay. All food reserves inhabitants had to bring up the stairs on their backs, so in the upper city a huge water tank was built, rain water was collected there and the supplies were enough for many months.
Two photos in WS:
1. the ruins of the upper city and the 13th-century church of St. Sophia (Agia Sofia), standing at the highest point of the rock.
2. abandoned houses, in the picture you can see how the walls of houses were connected with rocks.

Ciao Ryszard
un vero e proprio mondo di pietra, l'elemento principale e quasi unico che si ritrova in tutte le foto.
Le foto sono tutte belle, difficile scegliere la migliore.

Hello Ryszard,
The house stands out so beautifully from the steep cliffs behind it. Also the darker tones make a good backdrop for the sunlit walls. Excellent vertical composition, too.

Hello Ryszard,
You have posted quite many photos from this rock, and I understand your fascination with this place. Every new photo reveals something new that wasn't possible to imagine when we saw the first ones. This photo is very well composed and gives us an idea of the hard life here. Again the colours and light are beautifully handled.
Kind regards,
Gert

J'aime beaucoup la construction de cette image. Le regard suit naturellement les marches qui montent et qui montent vers cette trčs belle maison de pierres qui domine le paysage.

Hi Ryszard
The RSPCA would have a field day in Greece and Jordan with overweight tourists using skinny donkeys to get up steep stairs like this. There are some controls in Jordan at least with tourists being encouraged to report whipping of donkeys by the Jordanian riders that causes bleeding. Their license is then revoked. Anyway good sharpness and color & I am glad I do not have to carry my groceries up there! Tfs!

Hi Ryszard
Such a rugged place this helps me to imagine how they can live and survive in such a condition. I love the condensed story you provide, it's superbly captured in a peaceful setting taken from a well considered viewpoint. The appealing green and blue sky help to boost the warm colour with crisp detail of the stonework. It's harsh but extremely a very restful place and calm away from hustle and bustle, it seems to ooze out of this image. So very well captured documentary shot, Congrats, TFS
Best regards
