Photographer's Note
There are numerous photos on TE of Skogarfoss, and why not? It's one of Iceland's most impressive waterfalls, the water from the massive glaciers, Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull, cascading 60 metres and creating a fine, misty spray which often yields rainbows on a sunny day. The water thunders over a cliff which was once, very long ago, the coastal shoreline. Today, the cliffs are 5 kilometres from the shore on the south coast.
Walking up close to the falls is likely to see one drenched, something I was not keen to do, even on a bright June day. But I did manage to climb the 370 steps up the eastern side to the top of the cascade, which gives one access to the Fimmvorduhals pass, a popular hiking route between the glaciers.
Legend has it that an early Viking settler in the region hid a chest of gold behind the cascade. Through the centuries many tried to retrieve it, but only succeeded in pulling away from the chest one of its ring-shaped handles. It's said this ring found its way to the local church door, and is today reputedly the ring which is on display in the Skogarfoss Museum.

Hello Andrew
Seems we are both on a Scandinavian theme today! The people are essential for scale here. Good motion blur of the cascading water and the parasailor top right adds interest. Tfs!

Hello, Andrew!
Indeed it's a beautiful waterfall, it looks really imposing! The presence of the people in the scene is great as a scale to the image, and the colors and sharpness are excellent! Wonderful place and composition! Well done!

Hello Andrew,
Excellent point of view on the roaring cascade. I like the colour contrasts and well rendered textural detail. The people enliven the scene and supply the necessary scale. The intrepid hang-glider is a plus.

Hello Andrew,
A well composed photo from this famous place. You placed the waterfall neatly towards the side and the hang-glider near the corner. The tourists provide welcome bright colours and dimensions. But regardless of everything else it's the heavy flow of water and the mist it creates that entirely dominates the view. It was definitely an advantage that it was such a sunny day.
Best regards,
Gert

Bonjour Andrew,
C'est une trčs bonne idée que de n'avoir pas centré la chute dans le cadre. Cela aide ŕ mieux la situer dans son environnement. La présence des humains apporte une belle relation dimensionnelle.
Amicalement

Hi Andrew
That's what you call a waterfall !!!!
An exquisite location of nature beauty highlighting its immense detail with incredible volume of water crashing down. A well proportioned image, some foreground interest, inclusion of the people and the kite certainly get the scale of this in perspective as well as the shorter exposure gives a feeling of the power of the water. An impressive dramatic capture blended with gorgeous colours and contrast. Splendid lens work, Congrats

Bonjour, cher Andrew,
Se peut-il que de telles merveilles puissent exister ?
Merci de nous faire profiter de ce spectacle superbe qui ravit le regard.
C'est ici que l'on mesure la petitesse de l'homme par rapport ŕ la nature.
Magnifique !
Amitiés.

Hello Andrew
Wonderful landscape, the crowd of tourists add to the dimensions of the waterfall (and show yet again how popular Iceland has become as a tourist destination). There's even a paraglider...ouch.

Hello Andrew,
Wow, a very attractive nature picture.
Excellent capture of the water crashing down and the rising water cloud at the bottom.
The cliffs have a very special and beautiful green colour. That goes well with the blue of the sky with its pretty small white clouds.
The paraglider arrives just on time to complete this splendid photo.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Andrew,
A fascinating and informative note you have written - including an interesing bit of folklore too.
And what a fine photograph! So well composed and with such glorious light and colours. This is indeed an impressive waterfall and I do believe I can see at least a hint of some rainbow colours near the bottom of the fall. The brightly dressed visitors in the foreground add colour as well as providing a fine sense of scale and a bonus feature is the presence of a paraglider at top left - perhaps about to plunge into the waterfall himself if he's not very careful.
The details and clarity in this photograph are amazing. To the right of the top of the falls I see a long line of fencing - is that the area up to which you climbed your 370 steps?
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Andrew.
Wow ...... spectacular this great waterfall, which throws a lot of water through these green rock walls, well covered in moss and lichens, the group of people at the foot of it, gives us an idea of the grandeur of the place .
Very effective coloring, which highlights the details of the image.
Good management, both brightness and sharpness.
Very well done. I like it.
Enjoy the weekend.
My best wishes for you.
Luis.

Hello Andres, I missed your Iceland photos. I would love to see this waterfall, the most famous I suppose in Iceland. Impressive view, the height is not big, but what an abundance of water. Just like a wall. Beautiful haze around, not good for camera to come close. I see that it is possible to see also the view from above. Spectacular composition.
Kind regrad s Malgo
