Photographer's Note

As seen in the Phoenix Park Dublin.
This is an original Gas Lamp dating from the 1750s the named engraved on it is the Viceregal Lodge... indicating that it was used there.
The Vice Regal Lodge was the residence of the "Viceroy" the "Lord Lieutenant of Ireland" under English Rule at that time... and is now the residence of the "Irish President".
The people who lit these lights at the time were known as "Glimmermen".
To-day these lights are still used in the Phoenix Park.
