Photographer's Note

The Tyrconnell Tower:- is a Medieval tower which has stood at this location in the grounds of carton house for hundreds of years. Although it was demolished in its past, it was rebuilt during the great Irish famine as a famine relief project. The tower is the symbol for the Carton House estate.

Carton House itself was begun in 1739, and was designed by the architect Richard Castles, whose other works in Ireland include such prestigious homes as Powerscourt House, Westport House and Leinster House. The house cost 26,000 pounds to build. Today the impressive house is a luxury hotel and its grounds feature 2 golf courses, and beautiful public walkways through forest areas, where other follies of note include the shell cottage and the boathouse.
