Photographer's Note

Bologna was surrounded by medieval city walls built in the 13th century, the walls were demolished in the 20th century.
Originally there were twelve gates leading to the city but only ten remain today and most of the gates were rebuilt in the 1600s or altered extensively.
In my photo you can see the Porta Galliera, built in the 13th century and rebuilt in 1659-1661, the road from here led to Ferrara.
