Castle of Montesanto - Sellano (PG)
Montesanto rises on a hill facing Sellano, on the other side of the Valle del Vigi, in a dominant position overlooking the river and well defensible. The location of Montesanto, on the border between the towns of Spoleto, Norcia, Foligno and the Duchy of the Varano di Camerino made the castle important for many centuries and influenced its rich history.
The documentation of the most ancient phases of its history, which dates back to the 13th century, is scarce. Probably it was built as a settlement near the monastic cell of San Nicolň di Acquapremula, dependent on the castle of Mevale, at the time the fief of the Alviano.
