Church of Saint Demetrius, a photo from Bitola, West

Photographer's Note

This is the belltower of the Church of Saint Demetrius. It was built in 1830 AD. During the Ottoman rule, all churches had to both smaller than any nearby mosques and it was forbidden to lavishly decorate the exteriors. Consequently, this church has one of the most stunning interiors in Macedonia FYR, plus they would often dig over 1 metre underground to create more space in the reduced height churches.

Hello Chris,
You placed the bell tower and the trees nicely inside the arch and with the cloudy sky as a fine backdrop. The tower has quite a beautiful relative simplicity and the stones of the arch have a fine texture that you captured well.

Chris, the cut stone arch frames well the belltower. The tower has an orange color and there is a big cross on each side. Superb architecture, good sharpness.

Hello Chris, On TE still the name of Macedonia FYR, although the country's name is now Republic of North Macedonia, North Macedonia in short. probably it will not be changed.
Nice view of this church in Bitola. Nice composition with the arch as a frame.

Lovely subject and lovely mood!
The bell tower looks so much more interesting when viewed through the archway and set against this cloudy sky, with patches of eye-grabbing sunlight.

I do remember this church and its tower in Bitola but I found it extremely difficult to take a good picture of it.
Strange, I cannot remember this arch. You used it very well to frame the tower.
