Koszuty is a village located near Sroda Wielkopolska, in Greater Poland Voivodeship. The first mansion at Koszuty was built in XVIII century and rebuilt in 1902. From 1850 to 1945, the mansion was owned by the noble Rekowski family including Napoleon Rekowski and then his daughter Maria who in 1857 married a great Polish patriot Witold Kosiński. After their childless death (Maria in 1911 and Witold in 1928) - mansion again became a possession of the Rekowski family- Kazimierz Rekowski and his wife Gabriela nee Malachowska. The Rekowski family lived in Koszuty till 1941 when Nazis took away the mansion from them and gave it to the German family of Kottke. In 1945 the residence was taken away from its lawful proprietors by the communist regime only to be subdivided into several small flats which eventually got destroyed. Some time later the building was reconstructed to serve the local community as a school and then was turned into the present museum.
