Photographers Note

Deforestation is the conversion of forested areas to non-forest land for use such as arable land, pasture, urban use, logged area, or wasteland.

Generally, the removal or destruction of significant areas of forest cover has resulted in a degraded environment with reduced biodiversity. In many countries, massive deforestation is ongoing and is shaping climate and geography.

Deforestation results from removal of trees without sufficient reforestation, and results in declines in habitat and biodiversity, wood for fuel and industrial use, and quality of life.

Since about the mid-1800s the Earth has experienced an unprecedented rate of change of destruction of forests worldwide. Forests in Europe are adversely affected by acid rain and very large areas of Siberia have been harvested since the collapse of the Soviet Union. In the last two decades, Afghanistan has lost over 70% of its forests throughout the country.

However it is in the world's great tropical rainforests where the destruction is most pronounced at the current time and where wholesale felling is having an adverse effect on biodiversity and contributing to the ongoing Holocene mass extinction...

It`s funny we are neighbours today and we both post an image with a man`s silhouette.

It's a well taken shot Korkut, although I'm not so sure about the strong sepia effect - I'd have preferred more subtle toning or straight black and white.
I like the way you framed the shot with the shadowy trees on the wall, but I can't help feeling that it might have worked even better if you'd included the whole of the man's reflection.
Overall I like it though, especially for the simplicity of the composition.

Hi!
Really nice picture and good idea.
However, I would have exposed it a bit longer to white out some of the background. The contrast between the silohouette and the trees is too small.

The silhouetted trees behind the screen make a very eyecatching image. You timed your shot perfectly to capture the man, not only on the left with lots of space to walk into, but also between trees. The conversion works well too.

Hi Korkut,

If those congresses are as inspiring medicine wise as they are photo wise, you learn a lot in them!
I don't even know what to say... Moody? Evocative? Abstract? Or simply wonderful?

I think I'll be mean and I'll point just the only minor flaw that I found: it looks slightly inclined to the left. :->

Hi Korkut!
Fading away trees in sepia and a lonesome man in the forground (representing the claim to power of humanity?) I like this synthesis.
And I like your note a lot, since Im highly sensitized to this issue. Its really frustrating, but it seems that Greece will be completely deforested in a few years. Therefore you should have rounded off your note by mentioning the Greeks as a human species extremely hostile to forests and nature in general.

Powerful speech.
Even here, in Canada, trees are falling for no valid reason, but mostly to grow corn, to transform in ethanol. A process that at the end, creates more pollution, while increasing the price of the food eaten by the poorer peoples.
So, I refuse to use biofuel for now.

Your picture has a good mood and goes well with your note, as very soon the trees will be ghost in this planet, only a souvenir, only seen in museum ( botanical garden ).
