Photographer's Note

This shot was taken at dusk last night in the area of Portsmouth known as Sallyport which means, 'an opening in fortifications from which defenders may make a sally'. The view is looking towards Gosport and the tower is called Tower House. There is a plaque on the ramparts which says

The Old Sally Port.
From This Place Naval Heroes Innumerable
Have Embarked To Fight Their Country's Battles.
Near this spot CATHARINE OF BRAGANZA
landed in state, MAY 14 1662
previous to her marriage with CHARLES II at the DOMUS DEI a week later.
Shooting into the sun, i have had to sharpen crop and run through USM. There is a little bit of a halo around the tower due to the sharpening.
