Photographer's Note

Another oldie based on my student days accommodation (must check I get the date right today, yesterday's must have seemed pretty confusing).

For I time I lived right on the edge of the Manchester conurbation at Diggle in Saddleworth. a 2 mile walk took me to me to the Pennine way on the moors divided Yorkshire and Lancashire. At the time this was a real backwater, the street lights around where I lived, including the one pictured outside our front door, were still gas. There were so few of them left, though, that instead of employing a lamp lighter, the local autority just left them permanently on.

I went back recently and the whole area has become a chic out of town residential area with prices to match. I thought it was a pretty good place to live at the time, but it was yet to be spotted by the property developers.
