Photographer's Note

This sight of a traditional telephone box is something which is getting rarer and rarer, so i thought I would take my opportunity to photograph this box in Ripley, North Yorkshire. Luckily in this situation there was a traditional letter box by its side. I really love the Englishness of this sight and the old fashioned design of these iconic objects. The design of telephone boxes were created by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott for the purposes of a competition to design a kiosk in 1924. The post box has been around since 1852, when Anthony Trollope installed the first on Guernsey in 1852. Since then the design has remained very similar and stood the test of time.

* I also like this image, as it gives me the opportunity to reference some of my favoured comedians- less so Sid & Eddie (who are obviously partial inspirations for this appropriate title) but more symbolically to the 2 Ronnies and Laurel & Hardy. Sadly however, my wit didn't give me any ideas for referneces to these duo's.
