Photographer's Note

I thought my days as a proto-cartier-bresson were over. Not due to lack of desire I hasten to add, more that the beautiful simplicity of pointing a camera at a chosen moment were gone, swallowed up by todays techno-babble and photo-fiddling with 1001 options.

I stalked this shot like a hunter after prey. Firstly, I drove past and went all the way home, with this scene still in my head. I then entered into an argument with myself as to whether it was worth going out again with a camera.

I went back out, parked the car across the road and looked square-on. It wasn't good enough, I sat for ages. Eventually, knowing I wanted a better angle, I drove away, turned and came back to the view that you see here.

She saw me at the moment of shutter-release, but hey, the expression says it all. She is offering her toys for sale, her CHILDHOOD!
