Photographer's Note

This Highland cow was one of the prize winners at this year's Neilston Agriculture Show and was captured during the Parade of Champions in the main exhibition ring.

With their long thick coats, Highland cattle are well suited to survive in the often harsh winter conditions that can prevail in Scotland. Highland cattle are able to graze on rough hillsides allowing farmer's to profit from land which would be unsuitable for most other breeds.

Their somewhat comical look makes them a favourite with visitors from overseas, although folds(as the Highland cattle "herds" are referred to) have been exported and thrive in many other countires across the globe.
