Photographer's Note

This one is for Nikki (cherryripe).

Having heard of the dreadful winter we are having in the UK, Nikki thought I would be posting snow pictures. This is what I told her:-
The problem with snow in the UK is they don't have the snow clearing equipment they have where snow is expected. It wouldn't be cost effective to buy. They are managing to keep the main roads more or less open but the side roads are solid packed ice and death traps at worst and you're going to damage your car at best. Even the pavements are thick packed ice. We've never needed snow tyres/chains/studs before so haven't got them. Most places only have enough road salt to last 3 or 4 more days so they're rationing it, as this weather could last another 2 weeks at least. This means if you don't need to go out you stay home. We've tried walking but there's nothing nearby to take decent photos of.

There will no doubt be some lovely images to be had on the North Yorkshire Moors nearby, but quite honestly, so close to my next trip away, I don’t want to risk the roads up there, which I know will be bad. Anyway Nikki shamed me into taking my camera out. I felt challenged to find something within walking distance, without needing ice crampons for the solid ice on the pavements.

This view is reached by walking through the fields and is looking over to the sea at Saltburn. As it is close to the sea there is less snow, but I quite like the view. I hope you do too.

I marked my position on the map - link right
