Photographer's Note

After Bev (Royaldevon) posted this picture, she has now started a theme on "Telephone Kiosks". So here's one for you today, Bev!

After a horrid wet morning, this afternoon in Scotland was absolutely beautiful so I took a trip to the Bo'ness & Kinniel Railway and even took a little trip on the steam train.

The Bo'ness depot is the headquarters of the Scottish Railway Preservation Society (S.R.P.S.). I have visited it several times but had forgotten, until I arrived, about this red telephone kiosk. So I took a couple of shots of it for Bev!

This particular model of British Telephone Box was the commonest of all models: it is the "K6" model and was designed by the famous architect, Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, and went into production in 1935 - hence often also called the "Jubilee box" as it was introduced in the same year as King George V's Silver Jubilee. The K6 box continued in production until the K8 model was introduced in 1968 - a more modern but somewhat characterless box with large single panes of glass in its sides.

I have added a workshop picture which is really a photograph from the other direction. What it does also show, however, is the rather fine brick station building with its three chimneys. This building is not the original on this site as that was demolished when the Bo'ness line was initially closed. This structure is actually the original station building from Wormit, at the south end of the Tay Bridge. In the distance, you can also see the large canopies which were salvaged from Haymarket station in Edinburgh before the line there was subsequently extended to Waverley.

You can actually just see this telephone kiosk if you look at Map:view and you can certainly see it if you look at this map and drag the yellow man down to the red cross and pan around.
