Photographer's Note
It's been a while since I posted any pictures from Lanark Loch but this morning was very misty and I decided to take a walk around it with my camera.
Lanark Loch is a man-made lake at the eastern extremity of the old town of Lanark in Scotland, having been constructed in the 19th Century by the architect, Hugh Marr. It provides an area of recreation for the local community and has plentiful birdlife including swans, geese, duck and moorhens: the loch is also stocked with carp to provide sport for coarse fishing.
But nowadays, the pleasant one mile track around it is popular with dog owners, joggers and those wishing some exercise, be that a gentle stravaig with a camera or a more vigorous run.
I liked the early morning sun streaming through the trees and lighting the mist and even the breath of this keen runner.

Hello John,
now this is just lovely,if photography is all about light then you have got it here in bucket loads, the rays streaming through the trees onto the track combined with the mist is so nice.
With the jogger coming into the frame and the walkers leaving there is a lot to enjoy.
Thoughtfully composed in a most suitable format this is a real cracker.Love it.
Best regards Les.

Hello John,
This is a splendid composition with several excellent details. Well, the diagonal rays of light are a lot more than just a detail, they completely dominate the picture and are its single most important ingredient. The fine atmosphere also depends a lot on the jogger in the red sweater, the curving road and the still very fresh looking lawns lining the road. The large tree has also placed itself very nicely.
Kind regards,
Gert

Beautiful composition, climate and atmosphere.
Feel the coolness and crisp autumn morning.
To capture the moment, you have to get up early. I'm a sleepyhead and I like heat and the mornings I like to watch your eyes. Really nice!

Hello John,
fabulous light and wonderful sunrays coming through the mist! I like how that jogger is kind of surrounded by a ring of mist. Good choice to emphasize the way in the foreground.

Hello John,
Wow - this is wonderful. The light streaming through the trees with the rising fog are what photographers dream about! In addition the light has picked out the lower branches of the trees giving them a bit of a sparkle and you have someone in red. Well done for just about separating the jogger from the couple - prefectly timed.
Super image.
Best wishes, Ann

Shafts of light streaming through the branches of the dense overgrowth of trees gives this pohotograph a unique dimension. The soft light and shade on the road and on the green grass adds to the acute sensitivity of the colours and the tone of the picture.
The jogger lightly enveloped with misty light is an excellent capture. The short silvery strip of low wall on the left hand corner, is an excellent addition to the composition.
Thanks for sharing.

What gorgeous use of available light, John. The mist outlines the rays perfectly as they filter through the trees, and the way the leaves are illuminated is just fantastic. Very emotive scene, still and reverent. Gorgeous work.

Good Morning John - I long to see light and mist combined like this and would love the opportunity to photograph such a scene. This is top class work. Full of atmosphere and beauty. The jogger and walking couple add to the scene, the red and blue add an attractive contrast of colour but keep the same tonal quality are are not too vivid. You must be chuffed with this one, a triumph! Warm regards Rosemary

Good Morning John,
Whenever you see light like this, you are always grateful to have your camera with you. It is like something from a Biblical epic, where the light descends from Heaven! Absolutely magical!
Not only that, the composition has fine leads, a guy in vivid red (Gunnar would be envious) and the focal figures are very strongly positioned.
Sometimes, blue skies are not necessary!!
Well done!
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Ciao caro Giovanni
KAPOW! As batman would say! I can see from your Exif data that virtually as soon as you took this you raced home and uploaded it. And I would have done exactly the same thing, it's a corker. As Rosemary says, you must be one happy we Scot, I'd be doing somersaults if I'd taken this. In fact I'm doing somersaults for you! The light, mist and filtered sunrays are just heavenly. Literally. And we even get the fitness freaks out jogging in the Lycra budgie smugglers as another element of dynamism. The footpath coming out of the left FG corner is another fine touch. Top shot, really beautiful. I have one small - and I mean minute - nitpick and that's the tree on the left. Chopping it out would have meant less of those beautiful sunrays, cloning wouldn't have been convincing, so can only think of the using the warp and stretch method by just pulling it out of the crop. I can talk you through that method if you don't use it, I find it helpful when there are things in the image that can't be cloned or cropped. On the other hand, you might like the tree included and I'm just a hormonal nitpicker :)
Un abbraccio and congratulations, the photo is glorious

Hello John,
a very impressive and beautiful capture of the pure, delightful and invigorating morning light. It's so wonderful to have a great picture and look at this heart warming light whenever you feel like it.I love its density and the way it invades the shadows of the tranquil humid landscape. I like the role the low fence plays in the composition enhancing the curve of the path and leading to the people. I also love the diffusion of the light, the way the bright colours stand out and your subtle and effective management of contrasts. The depth and the atmosphere are wonderful and inviting. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a good night and a lovely day like this tomorrow,
Ourania

hello John,
whoa! this is a beauty. Sorry I din't see it earlier. Those diagonal shafts of light through the trees and mist are just so lovely.Great that you captured the runner in the red top (Gunnar should like that). This has inspired me. I'd go out right now except that is grey and raining hard -so frustrating.Oh well, I'm off work for two weeks so hopefully there will be a day or two when I can get out.

Hi John,
I have no words to give justice to this photographic masterpiece. The sun rays make a fantastic effect passing through the fog. The light seems still strong enough to create great play of shadows on the ground. The jogger and walking couple add so much interest here as well. Very atmospheric capture under such challenging conditions.
From what you wrote it seems to be where you live? Wonderful place for a walk.

Hello John,
Wow, superb light you have captured here. You have made great use of the sweeping path drawing us into your scene and I really like the vibrant red of the joggers coat . The aura of steam radiating of him tells me he is seriously working out :) I think I would rather be the one strolling with the camera :)
This is a great series of photos and each one so different , what a gift. As you say sometimes the best time to be out with the camera is when the weather is really less than "picture perfect "

An excellent shot. I really like how the sun breaks through the mist. The runner is key to the success of this shot, his red top catching the eye as he emerges from the mist, whilst the couple behind him are just beginning to disappear into its depths,
Superb!!!

Hi John
For some reason I had not seen this one. It's fantastic and you have really noticed the superb light not only the beams but for me on the wall leading your eye in. Beautiful compostion and the red on the runner really works, it is one of the best colours! I would have tried to remove the couple walking away from the photo just to see what it would do.
Great shot.

I was browsing your gallery and after a few pages, I reached here. Here again the lens is the same, and once more a vertical frame.
Impressive!!
what a nice capture of the mist, the Sunlight, and the shades; the dynamic range of your camera is superb, but the credit goes to you.
You are not only a keen observer but also a better photographer, and not just a Canon owner.
I see someone has made a workshop of this image too.
This is more interesting.
Well then.....reaching there.

Hi John
South Lanarkshire has been featured on TE homepage today - all three images yours.
You captured my favourite kind of weather in this one. The light shining through the mist is stunning, the atmosphere perfect. The image makes me want to be there.
Great use of diagonal leading lines and I like your choice of the main focal point - the runner provides an eye-catching splash of contrasting colour, like a ladybird on a green leaf...
Best wishes
Kasia
