Photographer's Note

A view of the pump house buildings and chimneys of the Levant Mine at Trewellard, Pendeen near St Just in Cornwall, England. The mine, situated on the North Cornish coast was established in 1820 and was closed down in 1930. Often referred to as the "mine under the sea", tin and copper ore were mined and the shafts were sunk to a depth of 600 meters with tunnels running out for up to 2.5 kilometres under the Atlantic Ocean. The mine is now owned by the English National Trust.
