Photographer's Note

This is the Pepper-Pot, the Market House, and the most distinctive building in Chagford.

Built in 1862 to replace previous market buildings.
It now houses some small shops and toilets.
A Grade II listed building, and is in the centre of the town's square.
This large village was one of the four ancient stannary towns for the assaying of tin, and was prosperous throughout the Middle Ages. Later Chagford thrived as a market town.
Today it is a tourist centre for Dartmoor and a farming community.
(Information from various sources.)
