Photographer's Note

Badiet Esh Sham, not far from Iraq, Jordan, and Syria border meeting point. A view toward east, the place of suffering and havoc these days... Endless, red-hot during the day, hopeless to cross, endless, red-hot .... How many women, kids, men will try to save their bare lives from human arrogance and greediness by fleeing across these endless black lava beds .... Will they have any chance to admire vastness of this place, timelessness of these black rocks, beauty of these clouds drifting slowly from nowhere to nowhere?

Slightly cropped, despecked; Using Magic Wand mask tool I made a mask of the sky and slightly darkened it using Curves; Gaussian blur, radius 2 pix applied to the sky at 4000 pix picture width; resampled to 800 pix width; mask inverted, feathered 3 pix average; contrast of the ground increased using Curves; the ground sharpened using Unsharp Mask tool, level 57%, radius 2 pix.
