Photographer's Note

Of all interior photographs I have taken in Hagia Sophia during so many years I believe this is one of my favorites. There are many reasons, starting from the light because this part of the monument is oriented to the south and receives more light than the rest. But there are also these red porphyr colums, originally brought from one antique temple in Baalbek ( Lebanon today ) There are 8 such columns, two in every corner. They are really impressive by their size and color.
Finally, I am testing my new 14-24mm with the D700 in order to check the lens and also the camera and see how it reacts with high ISO settings, if I have no tripod.
