Photographer's Note

The old tanneries of Istanbul were situated at Kazlicesme, right out of the Byzantine walls which surround the city. It was a terrible stinking, muddy place, a heaven for rats. But one day the municiplaity decided to displace the tanneries to a modern facility quite far from the city center. So with a a group of photographer friends we decided to take pictures before it was taken down. I own hundreds of such slides all documents of a no long existing place.
