Photographer's Note

There was a time when the Istanbul Municipality took the decision to expropriate some century old houses, in order to open a new boulevard, much needed for the ever growing traffic problem of the big city. This was about 25 years ago, around early the 80's. It was a tough decision which turned even tougher to apply. I remember I went there in order to take a few photographs that would mean history after years. There were group of women looking after wood or other useful material in the rubble, and they would run to the wreckage when the machines stopped.
