Photographer's Note
This is shot of Northern Lights (Aurore Boréal). It's quality isn't perfect, but considering that in the 3 years that I lived above the 54th parralel, it took me many, many rolls of film before I could get one good picture of this phenomene, I like it...
The colors of this picture are original. They appear in many colors but I haven't seen many with so much red. They are usually greenish and are more frequent on very cold nights. On this perticular night, the thermometre registered minus 41 celcuis. Not a great night to handle a metal tripod with bear hands...

Nice shot but there seems to be quite a large amount of noise. Perhaps you should try running it through Neat Image?

Well I just love this image the colours are superb, the gaininess I think is part of the picture considering the conditions it was taken under.
it would be nice to know what speed/ F no. and ASA you used for this one?

Impressive northern lights, I've seen one some years ago, lasted about 45 minutes but never that red. I like that we see the top of the trees in your shot, it really makes it a picture of something that touches the earth.

This is a great image of the norther lights. I like the framing that includes the trees. The graininess of the picture doesn't detract much, but given the circumstance, I doubt many could do better. Nice job.

Great timing for this wonderful shot of the northern lights. With hot days & cool nights there are reports of lights across the country. Well done!

Big smiley for your effort! I heard that it's very difficult to get these kinds of photos!
This is one subject that I would love to take in the future!
p.s. I guess you have enough justification on getting a carbon tripod!!

This is a wonderful shot of the Northern Lights, I would like to actually see them some day. The colours are great and it is nice composition given the circumstances under which it was taken. I tried to tidy it up a bit (take out the spots) and posted a Workshop.

Really nice shot. The red/purple lights are very beautiful. The pine trees at the bottom of the picture act like a good reference object and allow us to understand the phenomena amplitude. Very good.

The picture is not perfect technically, but you managed to give a fantastic atmosphere in this picture, quite surrealist. I imagine how difficult it should be to take such a picture, but you succeeded. Very well done.
As others pointed out before, it would be interesting to know the speed you used.

Maybe the quality isn't perfect indeed... But thank you for having photographed it though, and letting us dream of those silky pink nights...
Very well done Paul!

J'en ai le souffle coupé!

Les couleurs sont splendides, je ne savais pas qu'une aurore boréale pouvait avoir une autre couleur que le vert.
Merci pour la petite note.
Félicitations!

Oh wonderful sight - I have seen Northern Light in Denmark a couple of times - but never as beautiful as this - and never red. Thanks for sharing this great sight Paul - too bad it cost you cold fingers.

I wish there is more room for the ground to give us the idea of dimension and size.

Bonjour Paul,
même si la qualité n'était pas au sommet (bien amélioré dans le WS), quel moment incroyable...
Les aurores boréales sont vraiment un spectacle fabuleux, on se croirait devant un ballet totalement improvisé.
Bonne journée
