Photographer's Note

This shot of the Aurora borealis, the Northern Lights, was taken in September 2003 near Meadow Lake in Northern Saskatchewan. The location is at 54degrees N Latitude and 69degrees W Longitude and the displays are relatively frequent.
There was a full moon that night and the display was fantastic despite the bright moonlight. The temperature was around freezing and it was possible to stay outside on the beach and watch the dancing lights for a few hours. It was very quiet with only a lonely loon calling and a wolf howling in the forest.
