Port of Veracruz, Mexico...

This beautiful senorita is called a Jarocha, dancing the “Son Jarocho” in a traditional dress and accessories... she is part of a group that is performing live on an outdoor stage in the Zocalo Plaza...

In southern Veracruz the Son Jarocho is one of the most dynamic variations of music and dance… emerged during the colonial period as a mix in between Spanish and African music and dance… as early as the 16th century, the Spanish introduced the native indigenous population to stringed instruments, which for the next 300 years became their instrumental core... the music truly has heart and soul...

There is a wonderful cathedral on one side of the Zocalo, it’s in the background, unfortunately cannot be seen… on the other side there is the “Secretaria de Hacienda del Estado” which is a government office that collects tax on properties...

This particular evening we were pretty fortunate, there was a tropical warm breeze from the ocean blowing thru, cooling down the thick night air...

Original photo was taken with a film camera and converted into a digital image... minor adjustments contrast/level in PS...
