Castello di Morcicchia – Giano dell’Umbria

Morcicchia whose name varies from Moricicla to Moricicula, could mean "Piccola Morice". This toponym begins to appear only in documents of the fourteenth century and tells of its ancient belonging to a marquis of the Orsini family.
It is an old castle, between Castel Ritaldi and Giano, which was perhaps in Norman in the 12th century.
This term means that vast part of the Spoleto area at the foot of the Martani Mountains which extends between Castel Ritaldi Giano of Umbria and Trevi on which ancient feudal lords had dominated the Dukes of Spoleto then passed to the Church when it became mistress of the Duchy.
