Photographer's Note

A view of the monumental doorway of the Biblioteca Nazionale located on Via Vittorio Emanuele in Palermo Sicily, now known as the Central Library of the Sicilian Region. I liked the glimpse into the inner courtyard, which seemed very inviting, also the presence of the bicycle that added a touch of vitality to the scene.

The Central Library of the Sicilian Region "Alberto Bombace" is a historical library of Palermo, founded in 1782 by order of Ferdinand I. It was stablished November 15th of that year in the monumental complex of the Jesuit Massimo college and the Baroque church of Santa Maria della Grotta, as a royal library thanks to Gabriele Castelli Lancelot, Prince of Torremuzza.

In 1861 it became the national library. In 1977 it was transferred to the Region of Sicily taking its current name. In 2004 it was named after the historic leader of the cultural heritage of the Sicilian Region Alberto Bombace.
