Photographer's Note

Another from the ordinary lives and the face markings you see all around Burma:

Travelling on a nine-hour narrow-gauged six-car train from Thazi - 70km south of Mandalay- to Shengyuong in Shan State, is an excellent way to go back in time and get a glimpse into the lives of the people in Burma. Characterized by their low speed with the average is barely 20km/h, the trains are typically overcrowded and in poor condition but it's a great way to experience some beautiful scenery along the route.

This was taken during a brief stop at one of many small stations which I forgot the name, that I got to experience when all the street vendors running out to meet the train, swarming the windows and doors shouting out their wares for sale. It was such a colourful photo opportunity, I could not resist taking. This persistent young vendor, I think was the most charming & very determined, still doing her best full of hope for a sale before the train departed. As with this shot, I was restricted by having a prime 300mm lens on the camera which gave me limited framing options as she approached.

Wonder what's going through her mind.....

Additional Pictures taken on a return trip.
Workshop1: It's not an uncommon thing for children to earn a living, sometimes with the parents, sometimes by themselves. This was especially young and cute little iced-water vendor.

Workshop2: Colourful vendors lining up with their wares.
