Photographer's Note

As we were waiting for the start of Night Blast and laser show, I started shooting different scenes to pass the time. This is a view of the Black Hills Nature Gates in front of the Visitors’ Center.

The Nature Gates are iron gates Korczak and Ziolkowski children decorated with silhouettes of 219 animals (past and present) indigenous to South Dakota. These 46 feet long and 8 to 10 feet high steel gates symbolize the region of the Black Hills that Zilkowski loved and where he spend almost 40 years of his life. Finished in 1982, the gates were his last great creation.

The workshop contains the same frame cropped less tightly to include some visitors coming for the light show.
