Photographer's Note

An intricate network of canyons in the red sandstone of Arizona, more obviously the work of river action than the Grand Canyon, Canyon de Chelly was home to the Ancestral Puebloans from about 300CE to 1300CE when drought drove them out. Situated in the Navajo Nation (reservation), and of enormous significance to the Navajo people, access to the floor of the canyon is restricted to Navajo accompanied tours but overlooks along the south and north rims of the complex afford stunning views over the steep deep canyon walls and the few farms on the floor.

The workshop image is a zoom-out of this area.
