Photographer's Note

Well, I wasn't sure how the moderators would react to the title that came to my mind for this one - I want to call it "Roller Derby Girls - Asses & Elbows" - as the word "ass" on the gallery might be misconstrued as crude or vulgar. I am only referring to the Missouri Mule (that is our logo, you know - because Missourians are so stubborn) and the Ass a name for a mule or donkey. ;-) Anyway, that saying is also a reference to my military career (sorry if the military reference offends anyone - I'm done with that now), where we used to refer to a bunch of sailors running to the bar or chow hall. The chief (me) would say, "look at them recruits - they're asses and elbows to get a beer!" Kind of a euphemism for hurrying up.

Anyway, that's what this angle of the action looked like to me. You can see the "Jammer" in blue with the star on her helmet on the far right jockeying for position behind her teammate, the opposing member of the team just pushed out of the way (or perhaps getting ready to throw an illegal elbow), the Jammer will be moving up in the pack rather quickly - the point is scored when the Jammer passes everyone on the opposing team. You can see the result of this particular Jammer's efforts if you click here to check it out.

Ok, I'm almost done with the Roller Derby shots - just bear with me for another set and I'll get on to something else. This series has been fun for me, I know most everyone else would like to see those beautiful landscapes with sweeping mountain views or perhaps a wonderful, colorful scene of India (well, I sort of prefer those my own self), but this is what I have to offer. I do appreciate the critiques that folks have been leaving, even though I have not had time to respond in the last couple days. I'm going to try to find some free time today - you know, work and all that stuff that gets in the way of the photographical exploration of our planet.

Have a great day!
